I am a 19-year old theatre-maker, currently studying a Theatre and English BA at the University of Bristol.
I enjoy making theatre focused on psychology, exploring the contrast between peoples’ outward appearance and persona, and their inner thoughts. I am passionate about theatre’s communicative power, and believe humanising ‘othered’ members of society on stage can initiate genuine change, whether through revitalising classics or new writing.
MACBETH
By William Shakespeare
University of Bristol Wickham Theatre, February 2026
I directed a psychological production of Macbeth, focusing on Macbeth’s experience at war that precedes the play, and how this influences his bloody actions to come. Through sound design and abstract movement, the audience were immersed in the protagonist’s troubled psyche.
‘A technical triumph that redefines student theatre…. Hattan’s extraordinarily confident production’
OllY Francis, Epigram (Uni of Bristol Student Newspaper)
In an effort to learn more about the industry, I have interviewed award-winning directors including Phyllida Lloyd CBE, Joanna Carrick, Nick Hutchinson, Linus Karp, and the Olivier award-winning Robert Icke who I also shadowed at a West End tech rehearsal.
I am a member of National Youth Theatre, have attended directing courses run by Manchester Royal Exchange, and am a long-standing member of the New Wolsey Theatre Young Company.
